There was supposed to be a skating party Saturday night at a new skating rink for teenagers in Ashland, Mass. Instead, there was only disappointment because of vandals, myFOXboston.com reported Sunday.

A dozen kids, along with union carpenters and selectmen, volunteered to build the rink at the Stone Park Pavilion in Ashland, which is about 25 miles (40 km) west of Boston. But just before the first skating party, it was destroyed by vandals.

The vandals used a shovel to chop up the ice and threw snow on the surface, making it unskatable. They also hacked through the ice in an attempt to steal a town flag.

Police and some of the teen volunteers are looking for the vandals who destroyed the rink.
