BUFFALO, N.Y. – A former New York television executive accused of beheading his estranged wife has left the courtroom after a judge refused to let him act as his own attorney for the rest of his murder trial.
A handcuffed Muzzammil Hassan (moo-ZAHM'-mel HAH'-sahn) was escorted from the Buffalo courtroom by a half dozen court officers Thursday after his unsuccessful appeal to Erie County Judge Thomas Franczyk (FRAHN'-zik).
Hassan says his lawyer is under prepared.
Hassan asked to go back to jail, but the judge said he would have to watch the proceedings in a room with an audio and video feed.
Testimony in Hassan's second-degree murder began Tuesday. He's charged in the 2009 death of Aasiya (AH'-see-ya ) Hassan inside the Muslim-oriented television station the couple started to promote cultural understanding.
