LITHONIA, Ga. – Police in Georgia say that detectives left a bloody knife at a home where three people were stabbed to death — a knife that a newspaper says was later uncovered by a reporter.
DeKalb County Police spokeswoman Mekka Parish said Monday that detectives had found what they thought was the main weapon used in the killing, but that the knife should have been collected as evidence.
Parish says police are looking into the oversight and will take disciplinary action if needed.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution said a reporter found the bloody knife under a chair on the front porch of the brick ranch house.
Police have charged a 21-year-old man with murder and aggravated assault in the attack.
